Hollowfield is a five-person architecture practice in Frome, Somerset. We take on a small number of projects a year and stay with each one from the first survey to the last site visit. Most of the work is rural, most of it is constrained, and much of it starts with a building somebody already cares about.
The practice
We are architects, not a delivery machine. There is one architect on each project and that person is the one who answers the phone, draws the details and stands on site in the rain. It keeps the practice small on purpose.
Almost everything we do involves an existing building or a difficult site: a conservation area, a National Park, a listed neighbour, a planning history that has already gone wrong once. That work is slow at the front end. We would rather spend a year on the argument than lose two years at appeal.
